Discover Detroit Scholarship

We want our out-of-state students to discover  their home in Detroit.

Discover Detroit Scholarships are awarded to out-of-state students. This scholarship will cover the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition and standard fees. All out-of-state applicants who meet the below requirements will be considered. Incoming students are eligible to be considered for other merit scholarships awarded to Michigan residents.

Award for incoming freshmen - fall 2018

Award requirements

  • Entering freshmen must have at least a 3.5 cumulative high school GPA with a minimum score of 1160 on the SAT or 24 on the ACT (taken after March 2016).

  • Students must be U.S. citizens or legal residents of the United States.

  • This award is for fall and winter semesters and is disbursed only to students who attend full-time.

For maximum scholarship consideration, you must complete the undergraduate admission application (including submission of all transcripts and test scores) as soon as possible.

Complete the 2018-19 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered for all available funding.

This award is renewable for up to four years. If you earn a bachelor's degree in less than four years, your scholarship will terminate at that time.

Award for incoming transfer students - fall 2018

Award requirements

Scholarships are available to qualified incoming transfer students who are currently enrolled at a community college. Students who were enrolled at a community college within one of the two semesters prior to their anticipated starting term at Wayne State University also are eligible.

  • Transfer students must have at least a 3.0 cumulative college GPA with a minimum of 24 transferable hours from a community college.

  • Students must be U.S. citizens or legal residents of the United States.

  • This award is for fall and winter semesters and is disbursed only to students who attend full-time.

For maximum scholarship consideration, you must complete the undergraduate admission application (including submission of all transcripts and test scores) as soon as possible.
