Health and safety resources

Wayne State University offers several resources to ensure the health and safety of our entire campus community. These resources serve different situations, but overall, they are designed to provide the right support at the right time for any member of our campus in need of assistance. 

Student resources

Campus Health Center

The Campus Health Center (CHC) is available for Wayne State students' health care needs. CHC is a full-service, nurse-managed clinic that provides a wide range of physical and mental health services. CHC's mission is to help all Wayne State students stay healthy so they can attain their educational, professional and personal goals. Students can receive health care services including wellness visits, immunizations and more. Online scheduling for in-person and telehealth visits are available, often the same day. Walk-ins are also welcome. CHC is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Call 313-577-5041 or visit the CHC website to make an appointment.

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS)

CAPS enhances the wellness and success of our diverse student body and the university community by providing tailored, culturally competent, research-based, ethical, collaborative and inclusive mental health services, consultation, crisis response and outreach. CAPS has a multidisciplinary staff of psychologists, clinical social workers, licensed professional counselors and a psychiatrist trained to work with college students. It offers counseling and psychological services to approximately 24,000 undergraduate and graduate students, who make up the most diverse student body in Michigan. Services are free to Wayne State students. CAPS can be reached at 313-577-3398

Care Referrals 

The Dean of Students Office Care, Support and Intervention team helps connect students with support and services. If you have a concern about a WSU student’s well-being, submit a Care Referral to engage the WSU student support team. 

Office of Sexual Violence Prevention and Education (OSVPE)

The Office of Sexual Violence Prevention and Education exists to meet the needs of those who have experienced or been impacted by sexual violence. OSVPE provides services to the WSU community through advocacy, crisis intervention, education and peer support. OSVPE is survivor centered and works to empower students, faculty and staff by connecting them to resources that will create pathways to viable and long-term solutions for prevention. OSVPE is located in Suite 652 in the Student Center Building and can be reached at 313-577-9220.   

Title IX Office

If you have concerns related to sexual harassment, including sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence and stalking, contact the Title IX Office at 313-577-9999 /TitleIX@wayne.edu or submit a Sexual Misconduct Incident Report.

The Title IX Office is located in Suite 4324 of the Faculty Administration Building, and appointments with the Title IX Coordinator are available Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Email TitleIX@wayne.edu to request an appointment.

W Food Pantry and Thrift Shop

The W Food Pantry and Thrift Shop provides currently enrolled Wayne State Warriors in need of food assistance with supplemental food, gently used garments and additional resources to enhance student success. Contact The W at 313-577-1010.  

WayneRides

WayneRides connects Warriors with a range of transportation options in and around Detroit. Students can access university-subsidized 4-hour Dart and annual MoGo passes, which allow them to ride DDOT and SMART buses, the QLINE streetcar, and MoGo bikes for free. The WayneRides webpage includes informational videos on transportation options and resources for planning a transit trip.

Office of Internal Audit

If you suspect fraud, any suspicious activity, misuse or misappropriation, contact the Office of Internal Audit’s Fraud Hotline at 313-577-5138 or file an Anonymous Tips Form. If the fraud involves stolen or misappropriated assets (e.g., cash, property, equipment, etc.), contact the WSUPD at 313-577-2222 to file an incident report.

The Office of Internal Audit also oversees Wayne State’s Child Safety Awareness Training (CSAT). Where relevant and appropriate, Wayne State’s policies regarding nondiscriminationsexual harassmentsexual assaultstudent code of conduct and workplace violence apply to minors on campus and to all individuals who are working with minors on campus. All individuals leading or working with minors on campus must complete a background check by Human Resources as a condition of employment as well as the CSAT prior to the beginning of the youth program. Internal Audit works with campus administrators to identify youth programs that require the training. If the youth program is not a WSU program but is being conducted by external parties on WSU’s campus, Internal Audit will work with Housing or other relevant sponsoring departments to identify those groups that require the training. 

Office of General Counsel

The Office of General Counsel provides legal counsel and representation to Wayne State University on a broad range of legal matters affecting the university. If you are unsure whether to report an incident, contact the Office of General Counsel at 313-577-2268.

Wayne State Alerts

As a member of the Wayne State community, you are automatically signed up for Wayne State Alerts, which will notify you of important closures, emergencies and other incidents. Those outside of the WSU community, such as parents, can sign up for alerts by texting WAYNESTATEALERT to 77295.   

Wayne State University Police Department

Anytime you feel unsafe on campus or if you witness a crime, call the WSUPD at 313–577-2222. If you are out late working or studying on campus, take advantage of the Safewalk program and have a WSU officer escort you to your vehicle or dorm. The WSUPD also offers active attacker training and preparedness tips at the WSUPD website. Hours available 24/7.
