529 College Savings Plan


Wayne State University accepts payments from 529 College Savings Plans.  Payments can be made electronically online through your Student Account Dashboard.  A $10 non-refundable fee will apply to electronic 529 payments.

You may also initiate payment directly with your 529 plan administrator.  Payments being sent by paper check should include student name and account number.  Payments are to be mailed to:

How do I make an electronic payment from my 529 College Savings Plan?

  • Log into Academica
  • Click on "Student Resources"
  • Click on "Online Payments"
  • Click on "Student Account Dashboard"
  • From your Student Account Dashboard Overview page, click on the "Make a Payment"
  • Key in amount you wish to pay
  • Click the "Checkout" button
  • Choose the payment method "New 529 Savings Plan"

Is there a fee for using the electronic 529 College Savings Plan?

The online payment servicer will charge a $10.00 non-refundable convenience fee for use of online payment capability.  The $10.00 fee will be deducted directly from your 529 College Savings Plan. 

Which 529 College Savings Plans participate in the electronic payment option?

For participating 529 College Savings Plan providers please refer to the 529 payment option in your Student Account Dashboard

What do I do if my plan is not available for electronic payments?

If your plan is not listed as a participant of the electronic option, please contact your 529 Plan administrator to initiate delivery of payment to Wayne State. 

What expenses may be paid by my 529 College Savings Plan?

Typically, any tuition and fee related charges, as well as non-tuition related charges such as housing, books and supplies, can be paid by your 529 College Savings Plan.  However, please confirm with your 529 College Savings Plan provider on what charges they will cover. 

Once online payment is initiated, is there a delay until the 529 College Savings Plan payment will post to the student account?

No, online 529 College Savings Plan payments will post to your student account balance the same day payment is initiated. 

Will excess 529 College Savings Plan payments be refunded to me?

Yes, payments paid in excess of student account charges will be refunded to the student through the standard student refund process.  If you anticipate receiving a student account refund, Student Direct Deposit is recommended for fast and safe delivery of your student account refund.  For information about Student Direct Deposit, please visit https://wayne.edu/bursar/refunds.
