2024 Orientation Leader Team

Jon Watt, he/him/his – first-year orientation leader

Major: B.S. Psychology, 2nd-year | Hometown: Dearborn, MI | Best Midtown/Downtown Detroit eatery: It's really basic but I like going to subway on campus, it's a good place to spend warrior dollars and I can bring it back into my dorm with me. Also, Pie Sci Pizza on Trumbull is good.

What brought you to Wayne State? I feel like Wayne State is a great value for my education, it made a lot of sense and puts you in a place with more opportunities. Wayne also made a better impression on me than other colleges when I visited.

What advice would you give to an incoming student? Get involved on campus, there's plenty of things to do on Wayne's campus. It might seem like a waste of time, but trust me it's not.

Kashvi Vasudeva, she/her/hers – second-year orientation leader (returner)

Major: B.S. Biological Sciences, 3rd-year | Hometown: Windsor, ON | Best Midtown/Downtown Detroit eatery: Panda Express

What brought you to Wayne State? Attending Wayne State challenges me to grow academically and personally. The supportive environment and resources available allow me to develop the skills I need to succeed.

What advice would you give to an incoming student? One piece of advice that I want to give to incoming students is to get involved in something at Wayne State. This will help you feel more like you belong at the University.

Mina Shakir – first-year orientation leader

Major: B.S. Exercise and Sports Science, Pre-Dental track, 4th-year | Hometown: West Bloomfield, MI | Best Midtown/Downtown Detroit eatery: Ima, Sy Thai, and Blimpie’s

What brought you to Wayne State? Wayne State’s close proximity to home led me to choose it. I also enjoy being in Detroit.

What advice would you give to an incoming student? Take advantage of clubs and extracurriculars. They will be one of the main ways you make your friends here!

Sara Flange, she/her/hers – first-year orientation leader

Major: B.A. World Languages, Literatures and Cultures, concentration: Japanese, 2nd-year | Hometown: Belleville, MI | Best Midtown/Downtown Detroit eatery: It’s a tie between Ima noodles and Panda Express

What brought you to Wayne State? I loved the campus and it was close to home so I could commute.

What advice would you give to an incoming student? Just be yourself! You’ll meet a lot of people that you’ll click with, so just be yourself.
