Family resources for the academic year

You'll receive a lot of information before, during and after orientation. We've provided a comprehensive list of resources that you can turn to for each month of the academic year based on what might be going on with your student. This page can be used in combination with the calendar you received during orientation.

Before the first semester

New Student Orientation and Next Steps

Spring/summer and fall 2024 orientation sessions will open for registration in late-January 2024 and the sessions begin in May 2024. Please note that orientation reservations are taken on a first-come, first-served basis and we are unable to take your reservation once a date is full.

Setting up your student's Wayne State account
The primary student portal, where students access everything from financial aid to course registration to their Wayne State email account, is called Academica. To log in for the first time, students should use their AccessID and their nine-digit student ID. Their accessID is two letters and four numbers. Both the AccessID and student ID can be found through their Admitted Student Portal in the top yellow corner of the page. Once they log in with their student ID number, the system will prompt them to change their password. As a reminder, this is your student's account, not yours - be sure your student knows their password as they will need to access this information on a regular basis.

When your student adds your contact information to this form, it gives Wayne State permission to discuss your students educational records with you when you call or email. Please review the federal law that protects a person's educational records for more information.
