Cap and gowns
Caps and gowns are required to participate in the ceremonies. The deadline to order your cap and gown online is March 24.
You may also visit the WSU Bookstore beginning mid-March to order regalia in person during normal business hours.
Cap and gown pricing

- Non-Ph.D./Ed.D. Doctoral Package (Tam, Gown, Tassel, Hood) - $247.94
- Ph.D./Ed.D. Rental Package (Rental Hood & Gown, Keeper Tam) - $225
Doctoral degree candidates
Doctoral degree candidates (Pharm.D./Aud.D./DPT/DNP) wear regalia that may be purchased through the WSU Bookstore. The regalia includes a doctoral black gown, doctoral hood and tam.
Ph.D./Ed.D degree candidates
Ph.D. and Ed.D. degree candidates wear regalia that must be rented through the WSU Bookstore. The regalia includes a custom Wayne State University gown, hood and tam. The graduate may keep the tam.
The bookstore will inform Ph.D./Ed.D. degree candidates of the due date for all rented regalia. Please place orders as soon as possible to ensure timely delivery of regalia and avoid additional shipping charges.
Honors
Students with high GPAs in their major department do not wear special regalia (e.g., cords or stoles) at commencement. This is called "graduation with distinction," and it is bestowed upon undergraduate students who graduate in the top 20% of their college based on GPA. Your accomplishment is noted on your transcript — as summa cum laude, magna cum laude or cum laude — and in the commencement program booklet. For more information, please refer to the Board of Governors statute 2.43.61.

Diploma frames, order announcements, class rings
Diploma frames may be purchased at the WSU Bookstore. Announcements and class rings may be ordered from Herff Jones and Jostens.
