Applying Public Health Methods in Community Assessment

The “Applying Public Health Methods” learning community will provide public health students with practical experience in conducting community health assessments over two semesters, in linked sections of PH 3300 (Epidemiology) in fall and PH 4400 (Public Health Methods) in winter. LC Members will work in small groups on service-learning projects in a community-driven strategic planning process for improving community health. With the support of peer mentors, LC students will work in small classroom groups to learn about qualitative and quantitative methods, then apply those methods to practice in the field. Their experience through the two-semester sequence will be enhanced with supplemental study groups, field trips, and social opportunities. At the end of the two semesters, each student will have a portfolio of work to share with potential employers or graduate schools. This LC is linked to PH 3300 Epidemiology (CRN 13675) for fall 2023.
