Programming

The PMHSC currently offers regular Information Sessions for WSU Pre-Med and Pre-dental students and Essentials Meetings for Pre-Physician Assistant, Pre-Nursing, and Pre-Health Science. In addition, workshops on various topics are offered during the fall and winter semesters. Dates, times, descriptions and an RSVP link for both the Information/Essential sessions and workshops can be found in the menu to the right. Students hoping to learn more about applying to the WSU College of Nursing or one of the programs housed in the WSU College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences can follow the appropriate links in the menu as well. 

PMHSC also hosts school visits and other Special Events throughout the fall and winter semesters. Please be sure to RSVP to gain access to the Zoom information needed for the event. PMHSC events are intended for current WSU students only.  

September:

Army HPSP Scholarship Information Session - Tuesday, September 13 from 2-3pm, ASC Commons 

Looking for ways to pay for professional school? Interested in exploring the world? Join CPT Disney and his colleagues as he talks about the Army's Health Professions Scholarship.  This program is relevant for pre-med, pre-dental, pre-PT and pre-OT students.  Prospective Nurse Practitioner and clinical psychology students are also eligible.  Students who attend this info session will get early access to sign up for a suturing clinic hosted by the Army in October. 

University of Pikeville Health Programs Info Session (Optometry) Tuesday, September 13 from 3:30-4:30pm, Community Room UGL

Makena Markert travels from Kentucky to share information about two medical programs at the University of Pikeville. She will present on the Kentucky College of Optometry (KYCO) as well as the Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine (KYCOM). Spend the afternoon learning why WSU students have trained at these excellent programs.

MCAT Prep Resources from Jack Westin - Tuesday, October 11 from 12:30-1:30pm via Zoom.

Company Vice President Ryan Ellefsen will overview both free MCAT prep resources and complete course options from Jack Westin MCAT. 

Midwestern University Dental Program Information Session - Tuesday, October 18 from 12:45-1:45pm via Zoom 

Join representatives from Midwestern University to learn more about their dental education program.  Located just outside of downtown Chicago, this private institution offers students another great program to add to their list of their schools. 

Indiana University Optometry Session - Wednesday, October 19 from 4-5pm in the Student Center Room 289

Come welcome IU Optometry back to WSU to talk to pre-optometry students. Learn about their admission requirements and application timeline and more from Nikolas Jones. 

The Princeton Review MCAT Strategy Session - Tuesday, October 25 from 7-8pm via Zoom (must sign up to get link)

The MCAT is an exam that requires significant scientific knowledge and the skills of scientific inquiry.  This presentation will go over the tips and tricks you need for a strong MCAT score.  It is offered for FREE, by The Princeton Review. 

LECOM Bradenton Dental Information Session - Thursday, October 27 from 12:45-1:45pm via Zoom

Kent State University CPM Podiatry Info Session - Wednesday, November 9 from 11am-12pm

Join Angela Dessables, the Associate Director of Admissions at Kent State University's College of Podiatric Medicine as she covers the podiatric medicine profession and what a competitive applicant looks like at KSU CPM. 

WSU Pathologists' Assistant Program Info Session - Wednesday, November 9 from 1-2pm

Dr. Kramer, the Program Director, will join us to talk about what a pathologists' assistant does and the pathway to the profession. 

Southern College of Optometry Visit - Wednesday, November 16 from 4-5pm in the Student Center Room 289

Rebecca Smietana will give an overview of their optometry program including sharing admission requirements and answering questions about the application process for pre-optometry students.
