Adult Learners at Wayne State University

At Wayne State University, our students come from all walks of life, and we're proud to support them no matter where they are in their educational journey. We know that many of our students over the age of 25 are balancing career, family, and school, and many of our classes are offered at different times and in a variety of formats including in person, online, and hybrid to accommodate your unique needs. We offer a number of tools designed with your success in mind, and our Adult Learner Success Team can connect you to the resources that will help you thrive at Wayne State. If you've previously taken classes at Wayne State or at another college or university, contact our Transfer Student Success Team to learn more about the resources available to help you transfer over your credits and save time and money toward graduation!

Who is an "adult learner"?

No two adult learners are the same. Some of our students have been away from Wayne State for 20 years, while others are embarking on their first WSU experience after getting started at a community college. Some students are mid-career professionals looking to advance in their fields, while others are considering a career change or entering the workforce for the first time. Some are parenting school-aged children and caring for their own aging parents, while others are empty nesters. Whatever your story, we see you and want to help!

The Adult Learner Success Team is dedicated to supporting students who are 25 and older and working on their first bachelor's degree. If you are a second bachelor's-degree earner, post-bac, or graduate student, we encourage you to connect directly with your academic department for support.

If you identify as an adult learner, please reach out to us to learn about how we can partner with you to map out a success plan and achieve your goals.
