Bryan Robin Ellis (hc1775)

Bryan R. Ellis is a graduate of Edwin Denby High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of Montana and his Ph.D. from Howard University. He is joining the Honors College at Wayne State University after a three-year appointment at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, where he was a visiting assistant professor of sociology. During his six years in higher education in the Washington, D.C. region, he taught at a community college, at a historically black university, and at an all-girls college. Some of the courses he previously taught include urban problems, political sociology, research methodology, and social statistics. His research centers around understanding social inequality and fighting for social justice. He has previously lectured and/or published on race and sports, race and policing, and the sociology of education. He is currently working on a textbook on diversity and pluralism.
