Stephen Bajjaly is currently the Interim Associate Dean in the School of Information Sciences. Dr. Bajjaly came to Wayne State as the head of the school in August 2007. He served as the Associate Dean until August 2018, when he returned to full-time teaching. After retiring in May, 2023, he returned as Interim Associate Dean in January 2024. 

Before coming to Wayne State, Bajjaly spent 14 years on the faculty of the University of South Carolina School of Library and Information Science where he taught information technology, web design, and organizational management courses.  Bajjaly is the author of numerous journal articles and The Community Networking Handbook. His research interests include online teaching and learning, community networking, and the management of emerging information technologies.

Dr. Bajjaly served as the 2020 President of the Association for Library and Information Science Education (ALISE), the global voice for educators in schools of library and information science.  He was the founding project director for MidNet, the local nonprofit community network serving the midlands of South Carolina.  He served as Chair of the University of South Carolina's Graduate Council, president of the South Carolina chapter of the Special Libraries Association, and was a board member of the South Carolina Association for Educational Technology.
