Latino/a American Studies (LAS)

As part of the WSU Center for Latino/a and Latin American Studies (CLLAS), the LAS Learning Community houses a two-part student retainment initiative that includes the Chicano Boricua Scholars (CBS) and College to Career (C2C). The Chicano Boricua Scholars LC is a comprehensive, two-year academic program that focuses on providing equitable access to WSU resources and experiences and establishing college preparedness. During the first year, students benefit from a curriculum that includes FYS 1010, a first-year transition course (CRNs: 41391 & 19183), ENG 1020, Introduction to College Writing (CRNs: 41328 & 41329), and LAS 1420, Introduction to Interdisciplinary Latino/a Studies research class (LAS 1420) offered in winter. Numerous Latino/a courses fulfill Gen Ed requirements in the second year. The College to Career (C2C) learning community is a two-year professional and leadership development initiative that combines career mentorship, community-based research, and service-learning with graduate school preparedness. This LC has the optional component of Directed Study (LAS 3990) where you learn about your community through research and a capstone project.
