Shannon Cassilo (hr3541)

Shannon Cassilo is an award-winning television anchor and multimedia journalist. She has over a decade of experience both in the classroom and in the field as a multimedia journalist in the Detroit, Washington, D.C., Lansing, and Cleveland markets. Her journalism career also includes roles in digital content, producing, social media, and sports reporting. She worked in breaking news/reporting at Michigan Radio, WDIV, WILX, and WKYC, and her work has been featured nationally on NBC News.

Cassilo specialized in covering public education reform, and then began teaching multimedia journalism in 2014 at Cleveland State University. At that time she became the first ever multimedia journalist for the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, shooting, writing, and editing original content and setting a national example for reporting on urban education. She also served as an educator in the district, offering hands-on journalism training for high school students. Most recently she was part of the faculty at Kennesaw State University.

Her passion for education and youth development also led her to work in communications for nonprofit Girls Inc. of Greater Atlanta, helping to grow its media presence. She grew up in southeast Michigan and is excited to be back home teaching broadcast/multimedia journalism courses at Wayne State.
