Stine Eckert, Ph.D. is Associate Professor in the Department of Communication at Wayne State University in Detroit. After studying journalism studies and American studies at the Universität Leipzig and Ohio University, she completed her Ph.D. at the Philip Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland. She also completed a Certificate in Graduate Women's Studies at the Harriert Tubman Department of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at the University of Maryland.
Her research and teaching focus on journalism studies, gender media studies, new media, marginalized groups, public spheres and democracy, and online harassment. She is editor of the bilingual open access journal Journalism Research/Journalistik and Co-PI on the NSF ADVANCE grant WSU-GEARS (Gender Equity Advances Retention in STEM, 2020-2024). She also serves as Chair of the Helen Award Committee for Emerging Feminist Scholarship of the Feminist Scholarship Division (FSD) of the International Communication Association (ICA).
