Biography:

Nicole Gerring earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Politics at Ithaca College and a Master of Arts and a Ph.D. in Political Science, with an emphasis on world politics, from Wayne State University. She has teaching experience in the Irvin D. Reid Honors College and in the departments of Political Science at Wayne State and Oakland University. Dr. Gerring has published book chapters on women’s peace organizing in Guinea and gender-based violence in international relations, as well as journal articles on gender inclusion in civil war peace agreements and women’s civic and political participation in the developing world. She has received research funding from the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies at the University of Notre Dame and worked on a collaborative, systematic literature review project funded by the USAID Center of Excellence on Democracy, Human Rights, and Governance. Since 2020, Dr. Gerring has served as project coordinator for Wayne State University Gender Equity Advances Retention in STEM (WSU-GEARS), a nearly $1 million grant funded by the National Science Foundation to promote the hire, retention, and advancement of women and underrepresented tenure-track and tenured faculty. She lives in Dearborn with her husband and toddler son, Henry.
