Biography:
Nathan Chavez is a leader in project management, education and technology. He specializes in designing and implementing innovative teaching strategies, community-based faculty development programs, and technology-driven solutions to learning challenges. He is currently serving as the Associate Director, Educational Technology and Assessment at the Mike Ilitch School of Business.
 
Nathan was raised in Detroit and graduated from Cass Technical High School. He earned a Master of Education in Learning Design & Technology and a Bachelor of Arts in Media Arts & Studies from Wayne State University. Nathan is a certified Scrum Master and Agile Leader with a history of successful project management in IT and higher education. He has previously held leadership roles at Wayne State University and Walsh College, including Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning.
 
At WSU, he led the development of over 40 high-impact educational technology applications and processes; directly impacting the learning experiences of more than 40,000 students. Nathan was recognized by the Student Senate in 2021 with the "Ally of the Students" Award for his work serving students through innovative educational technology.
 
Nathan is an active participant at local and national conferences, having presented at InstructureCon, the Alliance for Excellence in Online Education, the Michigan Canvas Users Conference and others. Nathan coordinated the Michigan Canvas Users Conference in 2021 and 2023; bringing over 150 educators to WSU to discuss best practices in higher education and technology.
 
Nathan is a long-standing member and former Chair of the Latinx Faculty and Staff Association. He is an alumni of the Center for Latino/a and Latin American Studies. He regularly serves as a judge for the regional and national Invention Convention; a K-12 education program and competition that encourages STEM and entrepreneurship.
