David has been the Dean of Students at Wayne State since January, 2002. He loves all things green and gold and the Warrior pride and spirit of the Wayne State student body brings a smile to his face every day. Your student life experience is our number one priority in the Dean of Students Office.
David is originally from Rockville, Maryland, a suburb of Washington, D.C. He received his bachelor's degree in Economics from Bucknell University, his master's degree in College Student Personnel from Indiana University, and his Ph.D. in Higher Education and Student Affairs from The Ohio State University.
He and his wife Amy are the proud parents of Caroline, a social worker, and Nate, and summer camp director. He enjoys swimming, jogging, yard work, woodworking, and all things Wayne State and Detroit sports!

Dean of Students Office
Dr. David Strauss has proudly served Wayne State as Dean of Students since 2002. The Dean of Students Office is focused on student involvement and support through resources including student organization services and programs, the Student Activities Funding Board and Campus Activities Team, the Get Involved student engagement program, the Warrior Rewards program, The W Food Pantry and Warrior Thrift, non-clinical care case manager services, ombuds services, fraternity and sorority life, Student Senate, The South End student newspaper, the student code of conduct, and the behavioral intervention team.
Dr. Strauss also serves as an adjunct instructor in the department of Economics. He earned his bachelors degree in Economics from Bucknell University, his masters degree in College Student Personnel Administration from Indiana University, and his Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from The Ohio State University. Dr. Strauss enjoys swimming, running, woodworking, yard work, and watching TV.
