Bio Sketch:

Dr. George has been a registered nurse for 33 years and nurse practitioner for 29 years. She has been on Wayne State College of Nursing faculty since 2004, first as assistant and later as director of the college's DNP program from 2008 to 2016. She was instrumental in development of the DNP program proposal and curriculum. Dr. George has been active politically as the Michigan Council of Nurse Practitioner’s PAC chair, president-elect and then president, as well as the APRN coalition chair, during which time she has worked to modernize Michigan’s scope of practice for APRN’s by removing the barriers for advanced practice nurses for over 12 years. She was awarded AANP State Award for Excellence in 2011, NONPF Outstanding Policy Award in 2013 and was selected as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners in 2014. She currently serves as the board chair of the Nursing Practice Corporation, the College of Nursing’s faculty practice plan, and has experience in running nurse-managed health centers based in community, hospital and academic settings. Dr. George currently practices in a federally qualified health center.

Current Research:

An Allostatic Model of Pre-hypertension and Hypertension in Adolescents: The aims of the proposed study are to examine the impact of environment and sleep on physiological resilience in adolescents, and to determine the relationships between environment, sleep disruption and physiological resilience and the development of metabolic and cardiovascular risk.
