Transfer student-athletes shine with All-Academic honors

Transfer student-athletes are crushing it this season with numerous Warriors receiving Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) All-Academic accolades.

Five transfer students on the women's track and field squad received honors: Haley Boccomino (Macomb Community College), Jackie Feist (Iowa State), Courtney Hewitt (Indiana Tech), Kierra Johnson (Siena Heights) and Shanice Leach (Alabama-Birmingham, Youngstown State).

Senior Boccomino (kinesiology) and redshirt juniors Feist (physical therapy) and Leach (criminal justice) were named to the All-Academic Excellence Team for maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.5. Redshirt senior Johnson (kinesiology) and redshirt junior Hewitt (marketing) received All-Academic Team membership for having a cumulative GPA between 3.0 and 3.49.

In baseball, redshirt senior and management major Nolan Dill (Michigan State) was named to the All-Academic Excellence Team for the second time for holding a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5. Senior Patrick Adams (Macomb Community

College) and redshirt sophomore Dillon McInerney (St. Clair County Community College) were named to the All-Academic team for cumulative GPAs between 3.0 and 3.49. It is the first time McInerney (management) and Adams (journalism) have notched All-Academic awards.

Men's golf honorees include sophomore Austin Alexander (Oakland Community College, Michigan State), redshirt senior Garrett Freismuth (Macomb Community College, Wayne County Community College District) and senior Jesse Hogan (West Texas A&M). All were recognized for carrying a cumulative GPA between 3.0 and 3.49. This is the second time Freismuth (finance) and Hogan (kinesiology) collected the award, while Alexander (computer science) was recognized for the first time.

Named to the All-Academic Excellence Team for maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.5 is men's tennis standout Griffin Mertz (Detroit Mercy), a management information systems major. It is the first time he was eligible for the honor.
