Jackson College President Daniel Phelan and Ahmad Ezzeddine, associate vice president for educational outreach and international programs at WSU, announced a new partnership between the institutions during a live interview with JTV host Bart Hawley Dec. 17.

Classes from the Mike Ilitch School of Business will be offered at JC beginning in 2020, and allow students to complete a bachelor's in business from the JC campus.

Although WSU has numerous partnerships with community colleges in metro Detroit, JC is the university's first foray outside the tri-county area.

"Wayne State prides itself on having a large number of transfer students," Ezzeddine says. "They have unique needs and that's one of the reasons we have the Transfer Student Success Center. Our student profile is very similar to Jackson's."

Phelan agrees, and explained that keeping higher education affordable for students was a motivating factor in the partnership. "We looked at every public university in the state, and Jackson and Wayne State have a similar value proposition," he says. "There are so many ways we can dovetail (programming), and I think this is just the beginning of that adventure together."

Students who need additional information or help applying to Wayne State can contact Ranae Hamama, manager of the Transfer Student Success Center, at transfer@wayne.edu or by calling 313-577-2487.
