Survey Results

In April 2014, the President’s Task Force on a Smoke-Free Campus conducted a survey to help understand the university community’s views about Wayne State becoming a smoke- and tobacco-free institution.

Results

5,641 individuals completed the survey

  • Respondents included 3,954 (70%) students, 814 (14%) faculty and academic staff, and 873 (16%) other employees
  • 704 (12%) of the total respondents were smokers – 591 (15%) students, 51 (6%) faculty and academic staff, and 62 (7%) other staff

The majority of all groups feel that WSU would be more appealing if it were to go smoke-free: 60% total, 58% students, 66% faculty and academic staff, 60% other staff
