I have been active at Wayne State University since coming here for my undergraduate work in mathematics and secondary education in the fall of 2003. My journey into education did not really take hold until my participation in the Wayne State University Math Corps Summer Camp in the summer of 2004. In the subsequent years, I worked each summer as a college instructor, learning how to work with and manage students, but more importantly how to care about them and their success. Upon graduating in 2009, I was hired as the Assistant Program Coordinator and two years later, was named Interim Program Coordinator. During those four years of full time work, I created a series of operations manuals, significantly improved the efficiency of the program, and mentored many students both in the program and here at Wayne State. Additionally, I obtained my Master's in Applied Mathematics and audited several more math classes after completion of the degree. I also completed a Master's of Public Administration with a Graduate Certificate in Ecnonomic Development.
In the fall of 2013, I transitioned into a faculty role as a lecturer in the Mathematics Department. In August 2018, I was promoted to Senior Lecturer.
In the summer of 2019, thanks to the generosity of a WSU Physics Alumna and donor, I worked as the instructor for the first-ever Mathmematics Placement Exam Boot Camp for incoming freshmen. This Camp took 6 incoming freshment whose majors are in STEM-related fields and over the course of 4 weeks, covered content related to Algebra with Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, and some Statistics. The hope is that by the end of the Camp, they would place into Calculus I. The student participants took a math placement exam both at the start and end of camp. Half of the students were able to place into a course higher than what they originally placed into. Two of those students made it into Calculus 1. For the 2020 Boot Camp, we hope to have 20 students and two peer-mentors.
Here is a summary of my service work to date:
- Early Academic Assessment (EAA) Compliance Official. I ensure all faculty teaching 3000-level courses and below submit their grades on time.
- Cofounding faculty advisor for department student organization called the WSU Math Society. I have served in this role since fall 2016.
- Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) Mentor since fall 2014.
- Elementary Statistics (STA 1020) Course Coordinator (fall 2015-fall 2016). Worked to standardize the course and write a common final.
- Elected to Department Salary Committee (2015-2018).
- Member of the Gateways to Completion Committee (G2C) for Algebra with Trigonometry (MAT 1050) since fall 2016.
- Founding Chair of our department's Marketing & Outreach Committee (fall 2017-present). We have worked to put together a department Facebook page, program information flyers, visited area schools for recruitment, and are currently working on compiling a department history.
- Consultant to the Activities Committee, fall 2018-present.
- Appointed to the Chair's Planning & Advisory Board, fall 2018-present.
- STA 1020 Final Exam Consultant Committee, winter & fall 2019.

College of Liberal Arts & Sciences (CLAS)
- C.L.A.S. Representative on the Academic Senate (member of Curriculum & Instruction Subcommittee) fall 2017-present.
- Appointed to the C.L.A.S. Dean Search Advisory Committee (2017-2018 academic year).
College of Education
- Worked with Mathematics Education Faculty on revising MAT 1110 & 1120 courses to be in line with new State standards on teacher preparation.
- Provided input on elementary education courses and their alignment with my department's MAT 1110 and 1120 courses.
- Inaugural Class of Provost's Fellows (2015-2016) - worked on improving retention and graduation rate improvement initiatives.
- Presently the Secretary-Treasurer of the WSU Gamma Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa - the nation's oldest honors society.
- Appointed to the Building Renovation Faculty Consultant Committee (March 2019 - present).

I have served as a Professional Mentor for the College to Career Program for the WSU Center for Latino/a and Latin American Studies in 2012. I met with my mentee monthly to discuss classes, professional opportunities, a 5 year plan for success, and aspects of my job that are important (my mentee wished to be a lecturer). I was asked to deliver the keynote address in 2013 on mentoring in the STEM fields as part of this program.
In addition to teaching, I am also very active in my church, St. Pio of Pietrelcina Catholic Church. I currently serve as President of our Parish Council and hold several appointments on other committees in the parish. Additionally, I spearheaded a project to create a guidebook for Parish Mergers (part of the Archdiocese's restructuring efforts) that was presented to the Archbishop in October 2016.
I remain active in supporting my students' efforts to be successful and work to maintain standards of excellence both inside and outside of the classroom.

I am an avid Star Wars fan and Detroit sports fan. I enjoy fishing, biking, WWII history, and building with Lego.
My research interests include a focus on mathematics education and student motivation. I have worked with a colleague to revise the Mathematics for Elementary School Teachers course here at Wayne State. Additionally, I have worked on the CORE-M grant with Wayne State’s College of Education for 2016-2017 school year. The purpose of the grant was to improve the content knowledge of special education teachers in Algebra and Geometry (grades 5-12). As part of our deparmtent's efforts to revise courses, I serve on the Gateways to Completion (G2C) MAT1050 Course Committee. I am also interested in implementing active learning strategies in my classes.
I produced an instructor and student curriculum book used as part of the WSU Mathematics Placement Exam Boot Camp for the summer of 2019. The books were revised ahead of the 2020 Boot Camp.
