Orientation Part Two itinerary

Monday, August 28

1 p.m.
Keynote Speaker - Shawn Blanchard

Shawn Blanchard, in spite of his upbringing, has managed to evolve into an upstanding gentleman and inspirational leader to many. In light of his experience with you, community, and entrepreneurial pursuits, the Mayor of Detroit appointed him to the City of Detroit's Mayoral Cabinet as the Director of Youth Services. During his tenure he successfully led citywide youth initiatives.

He is now the CEO of Shawn Blanchard Productions and the Style Advisor and Co-owner of SnapSuits, an affordable luxury custom suit company, and serves on numerous boards. Along his journey of obtaining multiple degrees from prestigious Universities, as well as teaching mathematics at the University of Michigan, Shawn has adopted youth, co-created mentorship programs, and has held positions in school, community, and city leadership.

Creating a Culture of Consent for Commuter Students
Join us in General Lectures 100 for a presentation by Keith Edwards. He is a nationally recognized, award winning speaker and educator on sexual violence prevention. His presentation empowers college students to see the messages all around us that foster a rape culture on campus and in society at large, and challenges us to confront and intervene in the rape culture.

5:30 p.m.
Dinner and Warrior Uproar
Join us for a picnic dinner on the Tom Adams football field. Celebrate the beginning of your Wayne State Career by decorating your own Warrior t-shirt and participate in fun Wayne State Athletic activities with our student athletes.  

Tuesday, August 29

10 a.m.
New Student Convocation
Convocation is the formal welcome to the university. Parents and family members do not need to RSVP to attend with their new WSU Warrior. The ceremony celebrates the beginning of the class of 2021's academic career and will be held on the Max. J. Pincus Court in front of the McGregor Memorial Conference Center.

11:00 a.m.       
Festifall Picnic
The Festifall picnic will begin immediately following the ceremony on the Fountain Court area of Gullen Mall. During the event, students will have the opportunity to meet the Dean of his/her college or school. Various learning communities, student organizations, and campus departments will also be hosting kick-off activities.
