Canadian student orientation information
New Student Orientation is all about your success. This exciting day provides you with valuable information about succeeding at Wayne State. During orientation, you'll meet other incoming students and register for classes.
As a Canadian student, you can attend a regular orientation session date found in the appropriate First-year student or Transfer student page on this site. In addition to attending a regular orientation session, you also must schedule a check-in session through the Office of International Students and Scholars.
Appropriate placement into English, mathematics, biology and chemistry courses is an important first step to academic success. If you did not submit ACT or SAT scores with your admission application, YOU MUST take designated placement exams in English, math and biology before you can take these courses at Wayne State. We recommend taking the exam(s) at least two weeks prior to your scheduled orientation session. Contact the Testing Office to schedule your exams.
Have you received your I-20?
If you have not received your I-20 in the mail from the Office of International Students and Scholars, be sure that you have submitted all financial documents to the university. Your I-20 will not be issued unless that information is turned in. Check your application status page to ensure you have submitted your financial documents to the university.
Please note that orientation activities include extensive computer use and walking. If you have a mobility limitation, hearing impairment, or disability that limits your ability to read information or register for classes online, please write to us at email@example.com at least 10 days prior to your orientation date so that we can make arrangements with our Student Disability Services for accommodations. With advanced notification, we can ensure that appropriate accomodations are in place for you.
Students will automatically be billed a $250 matriculation fee at the time tuition and fees are assessed, regardless of orientation program attendance. This fee covers the costs of orientation, graduation and commencement.
