Big Data and Business Analytics Symposium to connect students, industry leaders

March 8, 2017

Wayne State University students can learn from and connect with individuals from more than 100 companies in fields ranging from automotive to health care at the fourth annual Big Data and Business Analytics Symposium, which will take place March 23 and 24 at the WSU Student Center Building. Over 300 guests are expected to attend and discuss how big data strategies can drive business success.

Big data combines data from multiple channels and sources to discover patterns of interest that can be used to improve efficiency and find new ways of growing business.

Students will particularly value the numerous networking opportunities with industry leaders and executives, as well as the startup company showcase, a new feature for the event. They will also get a glimpse of what they can expect from the university’s new master of science program in data science and business analytics, a collaboration between the College of Engineering and the Mike Ilitch School of Business that will launch this fall.

The conference agenda is built around case studies of top big data and analytics practitioners, including Amazon, Beaumont Health, Domino’s Pizza, Ford Motor Company, General Motors, IBM, MasterCard and more. The symposium also presents expert keynote addresses, tutorials and panel discussions.

It is estimated that more than 90 percent of the world’s data was generated within the last two years. As a result, this symposium is critical to help businesses and data-intensive individuals learn new ways to navigate the vastly expanding big data space. Students focusing their studies in such areas as business administration, computer science, global supply chain management, information systems technology, and any of the health science or engineering concentrations are sure to gain a great deal from this event.

Students can attend the Big Data and Business Analytics Symposium at a significantly discounted rate of $40 per day. Learn more about the event at
