WSU Provost Keith Whitfield featured on WJR's 'Spotlight on Excellence'

Turn up the volume — there’s a familiar voice sharing the Wayne State story.

Wayne State University Provost Keith Whitfield recently recorded several interviews for WJR 760-AM’s ongoing “Spotlight on Excellence” segment. Whitfield’s interviews will air during The Paul W. Smith Show weekdays from 5:30 to 9 a.m. and on WJR’s streaming audio through late September.

In each of the four segments, Whitfield discusses an aspect of Wayne State’s academic and research excellence, as well as its commitment to creating a positive impact in Detroit and beyond.

The segments offer a brief glimpse into some of Wayne State’s biggest points of pride. Whitfield discusses WSU’s role as a leader in addressing health disparities and the university’s rich history of community engagement in Detroit. Other topics include the importance of diversity and inclusion in WSU’s mission to prepare students, and the impact of the university’s innovation and entrepreneurship programs.

“I really enjoyed having the opportunity to talk about our outstanding faculty and students in the areas of innovation and entrepreneurship, health disparities, diversity and inclusion, and community engagement,” Whitfield said. “I see the hard work we do and our commitment to Detroit and the state of Michigan, and I am proud of the depth of scholarship and commitment we have.

"I can’t wait to see what more we can do to improve the lives of our students, local businesses and the community that supports us.”

The segments are expected to reach approximately 207,000 listeners throughout metro Detroit.

“There are thousands of great stories to share about Wayne State and its people,” said Michael Wright, vice president of marketing and communications and chief of staff. “The ‘Spotlight on Excellence’ program is a great way to share this information with an influential audience.”
