Provost to host all-campus forum on upcoming Higher Learning Commission review

Join Wayne State University Provost Keith E. Whitfield on Tuesday, Feb. 28, for an all-campus forum to discuss important information regarding the upcoming Higher Learning Commission (HLC) on-campus review.

The forum will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. in the David Adamany Undergraduate Library’s Bernath Auditorium. At the meeting, Whitfield will review important information about the HLC on-campus visit March 6 and 7, share highlights of WSU’s Assurance Argument and answer questions you may have.

“As leaders or subject matter experts, you may be called upon personally to be present at selected meetings,” Whitfield said. “Open forum discussions will be held with members of the HLC review team, and all are welcome to attend.”

The forums are as follows:

  • Open forum discussion: Criteria 1 and 2 (Mission and Integrity) will be held on Monday, March 6, from 11 to 11:45 a.m.
  • Open forum discussion: Criteria 3 and 4 (Teaching and Learning, Resources and Evaluation) will be held on Monday, March 6, from 4 to 5 p.m.
  • Open forum discussion: Criterion 5 (Resources, Planning, Institutional Planning and Institutional Priorities) will be held on Tuesday, March 7, from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m.

All open forums will be held in the McGregor Memorial Conference Center. Members of the Peer Review Team are listed on the Wayne State HLC website.

Two documents are available to inform your participation: the Assurance Argument by review criterion and talking points that summarize primary Assurance Argument themes.

As you may be aware from engagement meetings hosted over the past 18 months by HLC co-chairs Sandra Yee and Hilary Ratner, process and documentation for this review are significantly different than the 2007 review. The document itself is succinct and is supported by evidence exhibits that are stored on the HLC server. Accordingly, hyperlinks in the Assurance Argument are disabled.

If you have any questions, please email the HLC team for a prompt response.

“Thank you for supporting the Wayne State University mission to create and advance knowledge, prepare a diverse student body to thrive, and positively impact local and global communities,” Whitfield said.
