President Wilson: Sgt. Collin Rose forever part of Wayne State family

One year ago, our campus and the surrounding community were shocked by a terrible tragedy.

One of our police officers — Sgt. Collin Rose — was shot and killed off campus while performing routine police business. Sgt. Rose’s senseless death shook us to our core. We lost not only a fine officer, but even more importantly a colleague and a friend. Collin’s family lost a son, a brother, a fiancée.

A year ago we grieved, and many continue to grieve. Today, we remember and honor Collin’s life and memory by continuing our work together as a community; by rededicating ourselves to our academic, research and community missions; and by supporting each other and recognizing that we all have a contribution to make.

We also should all remember to thank our WSU Police Department, led by Chief Holt. Even as they grieved the loss of a brother officer, they continued to serve our campus and community with professionalism and dedication, as they do today.

Sgt. Rose’s memory will live on in all of us, and he will always be a part of the Wayne State University family.

Sincerely,

M. Roy Wilson

President
