Nursing student wins logo design competition, earns $1,000 scholarship

Among dozens of submissions of logos, one stood out: That of Stefanie Blake, a Wayne State University master of science in nursing student, with a neonatal nurse practitioner clinical specialty.

Nursing Practice Corporation (NPC) currently operates the Campus Health Center and is the faculty practice plan for the College of Nursing. In need of a logo and consistent branding, NPC decided to engage WSU nursing students and offer a $1,000 scholarship for the best logo.

“We couldn’t think of a better way to work with our fantastic nursing students, while achieving the 2016 goals and mandate of NPC,” said Ramona Benkert, vice president of NPC and interim associate dean for Academic and Clinical Affairs and associate professor at the College of Nursing. “We have such a talented student body that we wanted to utilize those diverse skills and offer an academic scholarship to assist a student in achieving her academic goals.”

The competition was fierce and it was a challenge to select just one winner, but the NPC board of directors was drawn to the simple, timeless, and relevant logo that Blake created.

“The Nursing Practice Corporation logo scholarship was a great opportunity to use creativity to design a logo to help support the college of nursing,” said Blake, who is nearing the end of her studies here at WSU. “The scholarship will be very helpful to help me support my tuition as I finish my last few semesters.”

Blake was recently awarded her scholarship in front of College of Nursing faculty and staff with a reception and short presentation of her logo. Her logo will be used on future correspondence and marketing materials, and prominently featured on the NPC website.
