NPR's Michel Martin, 'Weekend All Things Considered' to broadcast live from WDET

National Public Radio’s news program Weekend All Things Considered with Michel Martin will broadcast live at 5 p.m. Saturday, July 22, and Sunday, July 23, from WDET-FM 101.9. WDET is a public service of Wayne State University.

Award-winning journalist Martin and her producers have been in Detroit this week preparing for shows that will spotlight the 50th anniversary of the Detroit 1967 rebellion.

On July 20, Martin interviewed former Detroit Mayor Dennis Archer, former Detroit Chief of Police Dr. Isaiah (Ike) McKinnon and renowned Detroit guitarist Dennis Coffey in front of a live studio audience. Their conversation, along with performances by Detroit artists jessica Care moore and Mike Ellison, will broadcast on Sunday, July 23.

“WDET is thrilled to welcome Michel back to Detroit,” said WDET-FM General Manager Michelle Srbinovich. “As our region reflects on the events that took place 50 years ago, Michel and her team will speak with Detroiters who lived through the uprisings and bring these important conversations to a national audience.”

WDET and its partners in the Detroit Journalism Cooperative spent a year exploring whether the conditions that produced the civil unrest in July 1967 have improved for Detroit residents. Their reporting can be found at detroitjournalism.org.
