Associate Dean to attend HERS Leadership Institute

Heather Dillaway, associate dean in Wayne State University’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS), professor of sociology, and co-director of the undergraduate public health program, has been accepted to the 2018-19 Higher Education Resource Services (HERS) Leadership Institute.

This year-long institute consists of four in-person workshops at Wellesley College in Massachusetts and two webinars. Each session will focus on networking, institutional awareness and self-knowledge while fulfilling the HERS mission of advancing women in leadership positions and advocating for gender equity.

“I’ve always had female mentors and been inspired by them. I am excited to be a part of HERS because I want to continue to learn from other women in leadership positions and find ways to be better at what I do. I also look forward to sharing my own insight and ideas with the other participants,” Dillaway said.

Dillaway’s HERS application was supported by CLAS Dean Wayne Raskind and Wayne State University Provost Keith Whitfield, who both wrote letters of recommendation.

“This is a great developmental opportunity for Dr. Dillaway. She has provided an incredible amount of service leadership roles for Wayne State, and this will help her refine those skills even more. She is an excellent example of our world-class faculty being recognized for their leadership abilities,” Whitfield said.

Dillaway plans to bring the skills she acquires at HERS to her current positions at Wayne State. She hopes to develop her skill set and contribute her expertise to many university-wide initiatives going forward.
