Completing the FAFSA without the IRS Data Retrieval Tool
The IRS and U.S. Department of Education announced that the Data Retrieval Tool used on both the fafsa.gov and StudentLoans.gov sites will be unavailable until the next Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) season. This means the IRS Data Retrieval Tool will not be available for students and families to use until October 1, 2017 when the 2018-19 FAFSA becomes available.
Students should not delay completing the FAFSA. In lieu of using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool, you will manually enter you and/or your family’s 2015 tax information.
Remember, you will use your 2015 tax information for BOTH the 2016-17 AND 2017-18 FAFSA.
NOTE: Students admitted and/or attending summer 2017 must complete the 2016-17 FAFSA in order to be considered for financial aid funding. The last day to complete the 2016-17 FAFSA is June 30, 2017. Apply online at www.fafsa.gov.
