Coronavirus campus building statuses
Last updated: March 25, 2020, 6:54 p.m. EDT
The Office of Facilities Planning and Management is scaling back all campus maintenance services effective immediately. This plan will remain in effect through 4/13/20.
Currently, we do not have any custodians, maintenance tradespersons or groundskeepers on campus. There are, however, operating engineers on campus at select critical buildings to be sure we do not encounter severe damage to building systems. In addition, the maintenance tradespersons and groundskeepers are now available on an on-call basis as needs arise.
Operating engineers are assigned to a specific building, where they monitor and maintain boilers, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, air handlers, etc. The maintenance tradespersons are our mechanics, electricians, plumbers, carpenters and painters.
As coverage needs change, we will adjust schedules for all campus maintenance services. For information on building maintenance, please see the March 26 communication to campus.
The following campus buildings are closed or restricted to OneCard/key access only.
|Closed as of |
|Closed beginning |
|Partially open; require OneCard or key access|| |
|Parking structure closures|| |
The following campus locations are closed but have provided additional information to assist students and staff.
|Campus dining|| |
Towers Cafe is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner during posted hours. All diners are required to use to-go/takeout options effective immediately until further notice. Most other campus food retail, including Gold 'n' Greens, is closed until further notice. Some shops on Anthony Wayne Drive and around campus are open for takeout service only.
|Campus Library System||All libraries are closed to the public per executive order. We understand that some students depend on the libraries for technology to complete their coursework. With this in mind, we are currently working on a plan that allows students access to technology. We will share the details as soon as they are available. In the meantime, please visit our Library Resources website for resources and support in completing online coursework. Use the Ask-a-Librarian feature for help or questions that are not already covered in the guide.|
|Student Center Building||The Student Center is closed until further notice. All food court retail, recreational and meeting spaces, as well as the Late Night Grill, will be closed during this time. Most offices in the Student Center are working virtually during this time and should be contacted by phone or email.|
|Wayne State University Bookstore|| |
All students with textbook rentals will receive a reminder email about returns that includes a link to print a pre-paid shipping label so students can mail their books back for free. The bookstore is expected to re-open by the end of the semester for direct returns.
