Transfer Merit Scholarships

WSU offers various merit scholarships to qualified incoming transfer students who are currently enrolled at a community college and who have not yet completed a bachelor's degree.

Complete the admission application to be considered for these awards. A separate scholarship application is not needed.

You may receive only one merit award. The sum of all aid received cannot exceed the student’s financial aid cost of attendance (COA).

Warrior Transfer Award

A select number of community college transfer students will be awarded one of WSU’s highest scholarship opportunities. 

Award for incoming transfer students — fall 2017 and winter 2018

The Warrior Award is up to $7,000 per year for up to four semesters within two consecutive years beginning your term of admission. 

Award requirements

This award will be offered to the top admissions applicants.

  • Incoming students for the fall 2017 semester: For maximum scholarship consideration, you must complete the undergraduate admission application (including submission of all transcripts) by June 1, 2017.
  • Incoming students for the winter 2018 semester: For maximum scholarship consideration, you must complete the undergraduate admission application (including submission of all transcripts) by October 1, 2017.
  • Have a minimum of 30 transferable credit hours from a community college by the scholarship deadline.
  • Have a cumulative community college GPA of at least 3.25 by the scholarship deadline. Credits can be earned at one or more community colleges, but the combined community college GPA must meet set requirements.

To retain your Warrior Award

  • Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Maintain full-time enrollment during the fall and winter semesters
  • Pass at least 30 credits per academic year. Winter 2018 incoming students must pass 15 credits in the 2017-18 academic year in order to qualify for scholarship renewal in fall 2018. 
  • If you earn a bachelor's degree in less than two years, your scholarship terminates at that time.​

Gold Transfer Award 

Award for incoming transfer students — fall 2017 and winter 2018

The Gold Transfer Scholarship is up to $5,000 per year for up to four semesters within two consecutive years beginning your term of admission. 

Award requirements

  • Incoming students for the fall 2017 semester: For maximum scholarship consideration, you must complete the undergraduate admission application (including submission of all transcripts) by June 1, 2017.
  • Incoming students for the winter 2018 semester: For maximum scholarship consideration, you must complete the undergraduate admission application (including submission of all transcripts) by October 1, 2017.
  • Have a minimum of 30 transferable credit hours from a community college by the scholarship deadline.
  • Have a cumulative community college GPA of at least 3.25 by the scholarship deadline. Credits can be earned at one or more community colleges, but the combined community college GPA must meet set requirements.

To retain your Gold Award

  • Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Maintain full-time enrollment during the fall and winter semesters
  • Pass at least 30 credits per academic year. Winter 2018 incoming students must pass 15 credits in the 2017-18 academic year in order to qualify for scholarship renewal in fall 2018. 
  • If you earn a bachelor's degree in less than two years, your scholarship terminates at that time.​

Green Transfer Award

Award for incoming transfer students — fall 2017 and winter 2018

The Green Transfer Award  up to $2,500 per year for up to four semesters within two consecutive years beginning your term of admission.

Award requirements

  • Incoming students for the fall 2017 semester: For maximum scholarship consideration, you must complete the undergraduate admission application (including submission of all transcripts) by June 1, 2017.
  • Incoming students for the winter 2018 semester: For maximum scholarship consideration, you must complete the undergraduate admission application (including submission of all transcripts) by October 1, 2017.
  • Have a minimum of 30 transferable credit hours from a community college by the scholarship deadline.
  • Have a community college combined minimum GPA at the time of admission of 3.25. Credits can be earned at one or more community colleges, but the combined community college GPA must meet set requirements.

To retain your Green Award

  • Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Maintain full-time enrollment during the fall and winter semesters
  • Pass at least 30 credits per academic year. Winter 2018 incoming students must pass 15 credits in the 2017-18 academic year in order to qualify for scholarship renewal in fall 2018. 
  • If you earn a bachelor's degree in less than two years, your scholarship terminates at that time.​

Pathway Award

Award for incoming transfer students - fall 2017 and winter 2018

The Pathway Award is $1,000 per year for up to four semesters within two consecutive years beginning your term of admission.

Award requirements

  • Incoming students for the fall 2017 semester: For maximum scholarship consideration, you must complete the undergraduate admission application (including submission of all transcripts and test scores if applicable) by June 1, 2017.
  • Incoming students for the winter 2018 semester: For maximum scholarship consideration, you must complete the undergraduate admission application (including submission of all transcripts and test scores if applicable) by October 1, 2017.
  • Have a minimum of 24 transferable credit hours from a community college by the scholarship deadline.
  • Have a cumulative community college GPA of at least 3.0 by the scholarship deadline. Credits can be earned at one or more community colleges, but the combined community college GPA must meet set requirements.

To retain your Pathway Award

  • Maintain a minimum 2.75 GPA
  • Maintain full-time enrollment during the fall and winter semesters
  • Pass at least 30 credits per academic year. Winter 2018 incoming students must pass 15 credits in the 2017-18 academic year in order to qualify for scholarship renewal in fall 2018. 
  • If you earn a bachelor's degree in less than two years, your scholarship terminates at that time.​

Anthony Wayne Out-of-State Transfer Award

The Anthony Wayne Out-of-State Transfer Award is awarded to high-achieving incoming non-resident transfer students.

Award for incoming transfer students - fall 2017 and winter 2018

  • The Anthony Wayne Transfer Award is $9,000 per year for up to four semesters within two consecutive years beginning your term of admission.
  • Free on-campus, double-occupancy room, for up to four semesters within two consecutive years, if available.

Award requirements

  • Currently be enrolled at a U.S. community college outside of Michigan.
  • Qualify for out-of-state tuition rates. If you qualify for Michigan resident tuition rates or the Great Lakes policy rates you are not eligible for the Anthony Wayne Out-of-State Scholarship.
  • Incoming students for the fall 2017 semester: For maximum scholarship consideration, you must complete the undergraduate admission application (including submission of all transcripts) by June 1, 2017.
  • Incoming students for the winter 2018 semester: For maximum scholarship consideration, you must complete the undergraduate admission application (including submission of all transcripts) by October 1, 2017.
  • Have a minimum of 30 transferable credit hours from a community college by the scholarship deadline.
  • Have a cumulative community college GPA of at least 3.25 by the scholarship deadline. Credits can be earned at one or more community colleges, but the combined community college GPA must meet set requirements.

Transfer Merit Scholarships will not cover tuition before the designated award year. Scholarship recipients who wish to take classes during the spring/summer semester before the fall of their award year are fully responsible for payment of tuition and fees.
