Transfer Merit Scholarships

WSU offers various merit scholarships to qualified incoming transfer students who are currently enrolled at a community college and who have not yet completed a bachelor's degree.

Complete the admission application to be considered for these awards. A separate scholarship application is not needed.

You may receive only one merit scholarship.

Pathway Scholarship

Award for incoming transfer students - Fall 2016 and Winter 2017

The Pathway Scholarship is $1,000 per year for two consecutive years, for a total of $2,000.

Award requirements

  • Incoming students for the fall 2016 semester must be admitted to WSU, with all necessary official documents received, by June 1, 2016.
  • Incoming students for the winter 2017 semester must be admitted to WSU, with all necessary official documents received, by October 1, 2016.
  • Have a minimum of 24 transferable credit hours.
  • Have a community college combined minimum GPA at the time of admission of 2.75. Credits can be earned at one or more community colleges, but the combined community college GPA must meet set requirements.

To retain your Pathway Scholarship

  • Complete a minimum of 12 credits during each fall and winter semester for two consecutive years 
  • Achieve and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5
  • If you earn a bachelor's degree in less than two years, your scholarship terminates at that time.​

Presidential Transfer Scholarship

A select number of community college transfer students will be awarded one of WSU’s highest scholarship opportunities. 

Award for incoming transfer students — Fall 2016 

The Presidential Transfer Scholarship is up to $10,000 per year for two consecutive years — a total of up to $20,000.

Your award also includes membership in the Irvin D. Reid Honors College. 

  • Students who qualify will be invited to and must participate in Transfer Scholars Day to compete for the Presidential Scholarship. Students will be offered membership in the Irvin D. Reid Honors College and will compete for additional funding above the Gold Scholarship level.

Award requirements

This award will be offered to the top admissions applicants, based on your GPA at the time of admission.

  • Incoming students for the fall 2016 semester must be admitted to WSU, with all necessary official documents received, by April 1, 2016.
  • Have a minimum of 36 transferable credit hours from a community college by the admissions deadline.
  • Have a cumulative community college GPA of at least 3.75 by the scholarship deadline 

To retain your Presidential Scholarship

  • Complete a minimum of 12 credits during each fall and winter semester for two consecutive years 
  • Achieve and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.3.
  • If you earn a bachelor's in less than two years, your scholarship terminates at that time.

Gold Transfer Scholarship 

Award for incoming transfer students — Fall 2016 and Winter 2017

The Gold Transfer Scholarship is $5,000 per year for two consecutive years — a total of $10,000.

Your award also includes membership in the Irvin D. Reid Honors College. 

  • Students who qualify will be invited to and must participate in Transfer Scholars Day in order to compete for additional scholarship funding. 

Award requirements

  • Incoming students for the fall 2016 semester must be admitted to WSU, with all necessary official documents received, by June 1, 2016.
  • Incoming students for the winter 2017 semester must be admitted to WSU, with all necessary official documents received, by October 1, 2016.
  • Have a minimum of 36 transferable credit hours by the admissions deadline.
  • Have a cumulative community college GPA of at least 3.75 by the scholarship deadline 

To retain your Gold Scholarship

  • Complete a minimum of 12 credits during each fall and winter semester for two consecutive years 
  • Achieve and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.3.
  • If you earn a bachelor's in less than two years, your scholarship terminates at that time.

Green Transfer Scholarship

Award for incoming transfer students — Fall 2016 and Winter 2017

The Green Transfer Scholarship is $2,500 per year for two consecutive years — a total of $5,000.

Award requirements

  • Incoming students for the fall 2016 semester must be admitted to WSU, with all necessary official documents received, by June 1, 2016.
  • Incoming students for the winter 2017 semester must be admitted to WSU, with all necessary official documents received, by October 1, 2016.
  • Have a minimum of 36 transferable credit hours by the admissions deadline.
  • Have a cumulative community college GPA of at least 3.3 by the scholarship deadline 

To retain your Green Scholarship

  • Complete a minimum of 12 credits during each fall and winter semester for two consecutive years 
  • Achieve and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
  • If you earn a bachelor's degree in less than two years, your scholarship terminates at that time.​

Anthony Wayne Out-of-State Transfer Scholarship

The Anthony Wayne Out-of-State Transfer Scholarship is awarded to high-achieving incoming non-resident transfer students.

Award for incoming transfer students - Fall 2016

  • The Anthony Wayne Transfer Scholarship is $9,000 per year for two consecutive years, for a total of $18,000.
  • Free on-campus double occupancy room for up to two years.

Award requirements

  • Incoming students for the fall 2016 semester must be admitted to WSU, with all necessary official documents received, by June 1, 2016.
  • Currently be enrolled at a U.S. community college outside of Michigan.
  • Qualify for out-of-state tuition rates. If you qualify for Michigan resident tuition rates or the Great Lakes policy rates you are not eligible for the Anthony Wayne Out-of-State Scholarship.
  • Have a minimum of 36 transferable credit hours.
  • Have a community college combined minimum GPA at the time of admission of 3.3. Credits can be earned at one or more community colleges, but the combined community college GPA must meet requirements.

To retain your Anthony Wayne Scholarship

  • Complete a minimum of 12 credits during each fall and winter semester for two consecutive years 
  • Achieve and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
  • If you earn a bachelor's degree in less than two years, your scholarship terminates at that time.​

Transfer Merit Scholarships will not cover tuition before the designated award year. Scholarship recipients who wish to take classes during the spring/summer semester before the fall of their award year are fully responsible for payment of tuition and fees.
