Community College Transfer Scholarships

We value our relationships with community college students. That's why we've created these unique scholarship opportunities just for you.

These scholarships are available to newly admitted community college transfer students. Complete your admission application to be considered for these awards. A separate scholarship application is not needed.

You may receive only one of the following merit scholarships. Students who have completed a bachelor's degree are not eligible for these awards.

Retaining your award


Presidential Transfer Scholarship

A select number of top community college transfer students accepted into the Irvin D. Reid Honors College will receive a Presidential Scholarship.

Award for incoming transfer students — Fall 2014 

The Presidential Transfer Scholarship is $10,000 per year for two consecutive years — a total of $20,000.

Award requirements

This award will be offered to the top admissions applicants, based on your GPA at the time of admission.

  • Incoming students for the Fall 2014 semester must be admitted to WSU, with all necessary official documents received, by April 1, 2014.
  • Have a minimum of 36 transferable credit hours by the admissions deadline.
  • Currently be enrolled at a Michigan community college or a community college in Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin or Ontario.​

To retain your Presidential Scholarship

  • Meet honors transfer requirements and maintain membership in the Irvin D. Reid Honors College.
  • Complete a minimum of 12 credits for fall and winter semesters and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.3.
  • If you earn a bachelor's in less than two years, your scholarship terminates at that time.

Gold Transfer Scholarship 

Award for incoming transfer students — Fall 2014 and Winter 2015

The Gold Transfer Scholarship is $4,000 per year for two consecutive years — a total of $8,000.

Award requirements

  • Incoming students for the Fall 2014 semester must be admitted to WSU with all necessary official documents received by April 1, 2014
  • Incoming students for the Winter 2015 semester must be admitted to WSU with all necessary official documents received by November 1, 2014.
  • Have a community college combined minimum GPA of 3.75 at the time of admission.
  • Have a minimum of 36 transferable credit hours by the admissions deadline.
  • Currently be enrolled at a Michigan community college or a community college in Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin or Ontario.​

To retain your Gold Scholarship

  • Complete a minimum of 12 credits for fall and winter semesters. 
  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.30.
  • If you earn a bachelor's in less than two years, your scholarship terminates at that time.

Green Transfer Scholarship

Award for incoming transfer students — winter and fall 2014

The Green Transfer Scholarship is $3,000 per year for two consecutive years — a total of $6,000.

Award requirements

  • Incoming students for the Fall 2014 semester must be admitted to WSU with all necessary official documents received by April 1, 2014.
  • Incoming students for the Winter 2015 semester must be admitted to WSU with all necessary official documents received by November 1, 2014.
  • Have a community college combined minimum GPA of 3.5 at the time of admission.
  • Have a minimum of 36 transferable credit hours by the admissions deadline.
  • Currently be enrolled at a Michigan community college or a community college in Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin or Ontario.​

To retain your Green Scholarship

  • Complete a minimum of 12 credits for fall and winter semesters.
  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • If you earn a bachelor's in less than two years, your scholarship terminates at that time.

Anthony Wayne Out-of-State Transfer Scholarship

The Anthony Wayne Out-of-State Transfer Scholarship is awarded to high-achieving incoming non-resident transfer students.

Award for incoming transfer students - Fall 2014

  • The Anthony Wayne Transfer Scholarship is $9,000 per year for two consecutive years, for a total of $18,000.
  • Free on-campus double occupancy room for up to two years.

Award requirements

To be considered for this scholarship, you must:

  • Be admitted to WSU, with all necessary official documents received, by May 1, 2014.
  • Currently be enrolled at a U.S.. community college outside of Michigan.
  • Qualify for out-of-state tuition rates. If you qualify for Michigan resident tuition rates or the Great Lakes policy rates you are not eligible for the Anthony Wayne Out-of-State Scholarship.
  • Have a minimum of 36 transferable credit hours.
  • Have a community college combined minimum GPA at the time of admission of 3.3. Credits can be earned at one or more community colleges, but the combined community college GPA must meet requirements.

To maintain your Anthony Wayne Scholarship

  • You must complete a minimum of 12 credit hours for fall and winter semesters, and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.00. 
  • If you earn a bachelor's degree in less than two years, your scholarship terminates at that time.

Honors College membership

  • Although you may be offered Honors College membership, this is not a requirement to receive an award.

Pathway Scholarship

Award for incoming transfer students - Fall 2014

The Pathway Scholarship is $1,000 per year for two consecutive years, for a total of $2,000.

Award requirements

  • Incoming students for the Fall 2014 semester must be admitted to WSU, with all necessary official documents received, by April 1, 2014.
  • Have a community college combined minimum GPA at the time of admission of 3.0. Credits can be earned at one or more community colleges, but the combined community college GPA must meet set requirements.
  • Have a minimum of 24 transferable credits.
  • Currently be enrolled at a Michigan community college or a community college in Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin or Ontario.​

To retain your Pathway Scholarship

  • You must complete a minimum of 12 credit hours for fall and winter semesters, and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.00.
  • If you earn a bachelor's degree in less than two years, your scholarship terminates at that time.
