Orientation Part Two itinerary

Monday, August 29

1 p.m.
Keynote Speaker: Shawn Blanchard
In spite of his upbringing, Shawn Blanchard has managed to evolve into an upstanding gentleman and inspirational leader to many. In light of his expertise with youth, community, and entrepreneurial pursuits, the Mayor of Detroit appointed him to the City of Detroit's Mayorial Cabinet as the Director of Youth Services. He now serves as the liaison between the White House and the City of Detroit for the President's "My Brother's Keeper" initiative. Shawn has adopted youth, co-created mentoring programs, and has held positions in school, community, and city leadership. In this keynote, Shawn Blanchard will share his journey from crack baby to author, speaker, and mentorship specialist outside on Max J. Pincus Court.

Commuter Student Celebration
Join us in General Lectures 100 for a celebration of our commuter students! Recieve your commuter student survival pack and see a performance of No Zebras, No Excuses. 

5:30 p.m.
Dinner and Warrior Uproar
Join us for a picnic dinner on the Tom Adams football field. Celebrate the beginning of your Wayne State Career by decorating your own Warrior t-shirt and participate in fun Wayne State Athletic activities with our student athletes.  

Tuesday, August 30

10 a.m.
New Student Convocation
Convocation is the formal welcome to the university. Parents and family members do not need to RSVP to attend with their new WSU Warrior. The ceremony celebrates the beginning of the class of 2020’s academic career and will be held on the Max. J. Pincus Court in front of the McGregor Memorial Conference Center.

11:00 a.m.       
Festifall Picnic
The Festifall picnic will begin immediately following the ceremony on the Fountain Court area of Gullen Mall. During the event, students will have the opportunity to meet the Dean of his/her college or school. Various learning communities, student organizations, and campus departments will also be hosting kick-off activities.
