Canadian student orientation information

New Student Orientation is all about your success. This exciting day provides you with valuable information about succeeding at Wayne State. During orientation, you'll meet other incoming students and register for classes.

As a Canadian student, you can attend a regular orientation session date found in the appropriate Freshman or Transfer student page on this site. In addition to attending a regular orientation session, you also must schedule a check-in session through the Office of International Students and Scholars.

Orientation fees

Students must pay for New Student Orientation. This fee includes parking and food costs in addition to comprehensive materials. The fee is automatically added to your tuition and fee bill after registering for classes.

Freshman students: $100
Transfer students: $25

Testing

Appropriate placement into English, mathematics, biology and chemistry courses is an important first step to academic success.

  • You must take placement exams before you register for those courses at orientation.
  • We recommend taking the exam(s) no later than two weeks prior to your scheduled orientation session.
  • Your English ACT score can determine placement into freshman English if you meet the required criteria.
