I-9 eXpress
Wayne State University is using I-9 eXpress, a simple and fast online I-9 Form management program developed by TALX that allows us to manage our I-9 process and comply with the E-verify requirements.
The Employee website allows employees to complete Section 1 of their I-9 on or before the first day of work. Employees access the site and complete Section 1. The I-9 is stored in a pending state until the employer completes Section 2. Pending I-9s not completed within an employer-defined timeframe are deleted.
The Employer website is used by the employer's authorized users to complete I-9s, re-verify I-9s, view and print I-9s for internal and external audits, and access reports.
Remote Hire Process (U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents)
On occasion, an employee will work at a remote or off-site location and, therefore, is not able to present original documents to a WSU representative for inspection. In such instances, the Employment Service Center will authorize an individual to act as an agent of the university for the purpose of completing the Form I-9.
Please refer to the documents below for additional information:
E-Verify
Wayne State University is required to verify the employment of existing employees performing work directly on federal contracts and all new hires.
By using E-verify, an Internet-based system operated by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), it allows us to utilize information reported on an employee's Form I-9 to determine the eligibility of that employee to work in the United States. Click here for more information about E-Verify.
How E-Verify & I-9 eXpress Work
E-Verify queries are submitted to the E-Verify system through I-9 eXpress using the information from the completed I-9. After the I-9 is completed electronically, I-9 eXpress will automatically submit the query to E-verify (only if the SSN is provided).
I-9 eXpress automatically checks the work authorization of new hires with the Social Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security databases to reduce or eliminate Employer liability. The results of the query are indicated within seconds.
If the result is Employment Authorized, the process is complete.
IMPORTANT
It is Wayne State University's responsibility to ensure that ALL non-immigrants must receive work authorization approval from the Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) before beginning employment.
