Established in 1917, the college’s many distinctions include providing:

  • 57 percent of the fall 2008 total undergraduate credit hours in the university
  • the core learning experience throughout the university
  • the requisite math and science for pre-professional undergraduates
  • strong graduate education at master’s and PhD levels
  • 39 percent of the doctoral degrees awarded in the university for 2007-08

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences has

  • over $14 million for 2007-08 in external grants and contracts
  • several departments nationally ranked by the National Science Foundation and/or National Research Council

Despite the challenges presented by the current economic climate, the students and faculty of this college continue to excel and Wayne State remains a magnificent resource for the residents of our state.

The 2008 fall enrollment in the CLAS is 13,180 students. Total enrollment includes 8,352 full-time and 4,828 part-time students.
