Nature and Outdoor Fun
Metropolitan Detroit has many opportunities to get outdoors. You can camp, hike or swim in one of 13 Metroparks in the area. The city of Detroit is also becoming known for its green space, allowing residents and visitors to get a taste of nature in the city. Take a walk along the Detroit River, on the newly developed Riverfront and look over into Canada. Detroit is also home to the largest city island park in the country, and at 982 acres, Belle Isle is larger than New York City’s Central Park. When you’re looking for a short vacation from city life, visit one of the five Great Lakes that surrounds Michigan. The Upper Peninsula offers more waterfalls per capita than any other spot in the United States, and Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore was recently named the “Most Beautiful Place in America” by Good Morning America. No matter the season, there is always something for you to do outdoors in Michigan.
