What is the timeline for the 2013-2015 Detroit Revitalization Fellows Program?

What are the desired qualifications for a Detroit Revitalization Fellow?
- The DRFP seeks to recruit future leaders with a desired minimum of five years of professional experience and advanced degrees.
What is the employment package for a Detroit Revitalization Fellow?
- 2013-2015 Fellows will receive competitive salaries and benefits packages through their individual employers. Fellows will have the opportunity to receive funding for personal professional development opportunities.
What kinds of positions are available through the Detroit Revitalization Fellows Program?
- Fellows will be placed in organizations that contribute to the revitalization of the city, with a focus on:
- Real estate finance and development.
- Community and economic development.
- Land use planning/implementation of the Detroit Works Project.

What happens after the two year Fellowship concludes?
- Employers are encouraged, but not required, to retain Fellows when the program concludes. It is an explicit goal of the Program is to retain and grow leaders for the Detroit community. Employers will be asked to assist the program to retain Fellows in the Detroit region, if not at their organization.
- Our staff and advisory board will work with Fellows to ensure opportunities for them to remain in Detroit and continue to contribute to revitalization efforts.
Employer FAQs
What is expected of DRFP employers?
- Provide a two-year assignment (full-time with benefits) in a position that contributes directly to the organization’s mission and goals and supports the goals of the DRFP.
- To fully integrate their Fellow into the operations of the organization. This include proper on-boarding, and commitment to designate appropriate time to professionally manage, mentor and train a Fellow to support the needs of the employer's organization and the Fellow’s professional development.
- Active participation in the Fellow selection and interview process: the DRFP interview conference is slated for April 24-26, 2013.
What is the process for becoming a DRFP employer?
- Determine whether or not your organization can contribute to the goals and meet the expectations of the DRFP.
- Complete a formal application to host a Fellow (see below for what must be included in this application).
How does my organization fund a Fellow?
- Non-profit organizations are eligible for subsidies toward Fellow salaries, up to 50% of the Fellow's base salary.
- For-profit organizations are expected to fully-fund the salary and benefits of their Fellows, and may be asked to provide support to the training component of the program.
What type of Fellow/employee can my organization anticipate hosting?
- The DRFP seeks to recruit future leaders with a desired minimum of five years of professional experience and advanced degrees.

If asked to submit an application in February 2013, what should my organization be prepared to submit?
- A detailed job description for the proposed Fellow position.
- An organizational chart for the proposed Fellow position, including an organizational chart for the department/division/unit where the Fellow will be placed, including which staff member will supervise a Fellow.
- If a public or 501(c)(3) organization: Whether your organization will require a financial subsidy to participate in the program, and the extent of that subsidy.
- Answers to a series of detailed questions related to your organization's goals and how they align with the mission of the DRFP.
- A sustainability plan outlining your organization’s capacity to hire a Fellow as a permanent employee upon the conclusion of the fellowship.
