Workshop Series

The WSU PMHSC is happy to provide a variety of workshops designed to strengthen a pre-health science candidate in numerous ways. Workshop topics vary from semester to semester. Check back regularly for a list of workshop topics, dates, times and locations. Our workshops are held either in person or via Zoom  The PMHSC strongly recommends signing up to receive a reminder email as workshops are generally not recorded.  Reminder emails are sent between 24-48 hours before the workshop date.

January 2024

Majors and Medicine - Thursday, January 18 at 2pm in the SCB Hilberry A

  • Join the faculty from 10 departments on campus for an interactive workshop to learn about how a 'major' can support preparation for medical school and career as a physician. 

Nursing Application Submission Overview- Thursday, January 18 at 3:30pm on Zoom

  • This workshop will assist students in preparation for crafting and submitting a competitive WSU Nursing program application.

The Princeton Review: Full Length MCAT Practice Exam - Saturday, January 20 at 9am offered online

  • Join TPR for a full length MCAT practice exam. This is a great way to determine your baseline score and analyze how many points you need to improve to be a competitive applicant. 

The Princeton Review: MCAT Strategy Session - Wednesday, January 24 at 7pm offered online

  • The MCAT is an exam that requires significant scientific knowledge and the skills of scientific inquiry. This presentation will og over the tips and tricks you need to a strong MCAT score. 

Nursing Essay Writing Workshop - Thursday, January 25 at 3:30pm on Zoom 

  • Offered for those students who plan to apply to the CD2 program, this workshop will assist in the preparation and organization of writing short essay responses for the application.

February 2024

The Princeton Review: Full Length DAT Practice Test - Saturday, February 3 at 9am offered online

MCAT Skills Needed to Succeed as a Doctor - Tuesday, February 6 at 6pm on Zoom

  • Join Kaplan experts to discover how MCAT content knowledge does more for you than improve test performance. The skills you build now will help you in the future.

The Princeton Review: DAT Strategy Session - Thursday, February 8 at 7pm offered online

  • During the DAT Strategy Session, we will discuss the content on the dAT, walk through sample questions, and show you score-raising strategies to use on test day.

How Competitive Are You? - Thursday, February 15 at 6pm on Zoom

  • Assessing your readiness to apply to medical or dental school should include reviewing the factors that admissions will look at deciding how competitive you are in those factor areas. Join our pre-health advisors to discuss what those factor areas are and learn how you can assess yourself. 

The Princeton Review: Pre-Health Pathways Workshop - Wednesday, February 21 at 7pm offered online

  • The medical field has a plethora of careers that one can go into, with responsbilities, scope of practice, and daily tasks varying greatly. To help you narrow your search, this workshop will go over some of the many pre-health pathways that exist. 

March 2024

Writing the Personal Statement - Wednesday, March 6 at 5:30pm on Zoom

  • The personal statement is an important part of any competitive applicant. It should answer the question 'why' and offer evidence of preparedness for professional school. The process for writing the statement should not be taken lightly. Join our pre-health advisors to learn about the steps involved in crafting a strong personal statement.

April 2024

Pre-Write and Prepare - Thursday, April 2 at 5:30pm on Zoom 

  • The work and activities sections of professional school applicants actually provide more characters to describe an applicant than the personal statement! Join the pre-health advisors to learn about what content you can pre-write, before the application opens, and the strategies behind writing work and activity descriptions.

  • This workshop will assist students in preparation and organization of writing short essay responses for the WSU Nursing program application. It is intended for current WSU students who plan to apply to the WSU College of Nursing this year.
